Connect with the arts in The Blue Mountains Cultural Centre
Located in Katoomba the Blue Mountain Cultural Centre aims to promote contemporary
culture, world heritage and unearth the history of the local Aboriginal societies. The centre
achieves this by creating an educative and informative experience through the exhibitions in
its vast art gallery.
The gallery houses both temporary and permeant exhibitions from both native and
international artists. It’s here that cultures, creativity and innovation are mixed to create an
enjoyable viewing experience for visitors. Learn about the nature and biodiversity of the Blue
Mountains as you move from exhibit to exhibit or enjoy a guided art talk.
Exhibitions currently on show include Julie Harri’s works influenced by the Wabi-sabi
Japanese esthetic concept. The work, including abstract paintings and sculptural pieces,
look at the beauty of imperfection and impermanence in the natural world. Likewise, the
Leahlani Johnson exhibition combines ceramic works and paintings to express the
paradoxical nature of time. Her works alter in colour and shape and offer a fascinating
insight into the movement of time.
Another attraction at the Cultural Centre is the Street Art Walk a “dynamic cultural treasure”.
The Art Walk shows the worlds street art from every discipline including large scale works
from local, national and international artists.
The Culture Centre also features a multiuse room, artisanal product gift store and café.
Enjoy a coffee as you browse through the local products from Australian manufacturers. The
building also adopts an elevated position and, as such, has spectacular panoramic views
over the mountains.
